Votes are people of Votia in Ingria (part of modern day northwestern Russia, roughly (south)west of Saint Petersburg, near, and east of, the Estonian border-town of Narva). Their own ethnic name is Vadjalain (plural: Vadjalaizõt). The Finno-Ugric Votic language spoken by Votes is close to extinction. Votians were one of the founding people of Veliky Novgorod.

The Kylfings, a people active in Northern Europe during the Viking Age, may have been Votes.

As a distinct people, Votes have become practically extinct after Stalinist dispersion to Soviet provinces far away — as 'punishment' for alleged disloyalty and cowardice during World War II. In 1989, there were still 62 known Votes left, the youngest of whom having been born in 1930. In 1848, the number of Votes had been 5,148 (Ariste 1981: 78).

Along with the Izhorians, they are generally Orthodox, while the other Finnic inhabitants of Ingria, the Ingrian Finns, are Lutheran.

What about primary votes cast for presidential candidates who have since dropped out?
Q. What happens to the votes cast for presidential candidates who have since dropped out? What about states that 'elected' Giuliani, Edwards, Romney, etc. Do those votes go to the next contender or are they just gone since this is a primary rather than the main election?

A. When the person who received the vote has dropped out, so have the votes cast for them. How could these possibly go to the next-in-line contender when that wasn't the intent of the person who voted?? This would be like marrying the Best Man if the Bridegroom doesn't arrive at the wedding.

Are the votes among Clinton and Obama likely to be so dispersed that McCain wins the presidency?
Q. McCain's votes were ridiculously high compared to the other Republican candidates in the primaries, as compared to the similar amount of votes Democratic candidates Obama and Clinton had. Won't it be detrimental for the Democratic party to have all Democrat votes dispersed among two candidates whereas most Republican votes are toward McCain? Is this not a shoe-in for a Republican candidate to take the presidency? If you are likely to be rude, offensive or ignorant in your argument to this question, then please don't respond.

A. The vote happens in two stages. Currently, we are doing the Primaries. McCain may indeed win his party nomination, but that doesn't win the Presidency. When the Primary's are finally over (we are only half way there); then we'll start the General Election. We vote in November for this. When the General Election is running, EACH party will only have ONE candidate. This includes the Republicans, Democrats, Green, Libertarian, Natural Law, and any other major US party that I may not of remembered. So... no... the current race will not favor McCain.
