Political privacy has been a concern since voting systems emerged in ancient times. The secret ballot is the simplest and most widespread measure to ensure that political views are not known to anyone other than the voter—it is nearly universal in modern democracy, and considered a basic right of citizenship. Even where other rights of privacy do not exist, this type of privacy very often does.

How does your religion/beliefs (or lack of) influence your political opinions?
Q. My beliefs have little, if anything, to do with my politician stance. I am a pantheist and Libertarian; a social liberal and fiscal conservative. I favor a small government who's purpose is to protect the people and promote freedom. In other words, I have a "live and let live" political stance. If it doesn't harm you (gay marriage and responsible drug use in the privacy of one's home, for examples), keep your nose out of it. How does your religion/beliefs (or lack of) influence your political opinions?

A. I'd probably be described as a social and economic liberal, as I support law reform, protection of civil liberties (freedom of expression, etc), internationally recognised human rights, equality - and also redistribution of income (through welfare payments, progressive taxation) in order to raise overall living standards, so people don't have to suffer through poverty on minimum wages. I support the abolition of the death penalty, and tighter gun control/restrictions. I support the legal recognition of same-sex unions/marriages. I think my atheism influences my perspective mostly because it does not get in the way or overshadow my opinion or perspective, rather than a religion which could possibly conflict with my political stance. Consider to offer your political affiliation and your stance on choice of health care options?
Q. would forcing a political policy regarding your private medical choices and coverage be considered a violation of your privacy and autonomy? How would these choices effect your daily health?

A. Yes, it would be a violation. But then the presence of the police is a violation of the same, or paying taxes. FACT - the USA spends more on healthcare per person than any other nation on the planet. FACT - the US has higher death rates for kids aged under five than western European countries with universal health coverage. That means that a dead American four year old would have had a better chance of life if they were born in Canada, France, Cuba, Germany, Japan... It really is up to a society to VOTE to decide where the balance lies between individual and state responsibility. At present, the USA appears to be proud to have such high death rates of kids. But that is the choice of the US electorate.

A. rights of privacy would mean i wouldn't have to divulge all sorts of personal information for when im purchasing something or doing something. personal security would be the right to defend and keep myself, my family, and my property safe from others. Without the fear of prosecution or getting sued.
